Prayagraj Police Commissioner Ramit Sharma told paparazzi that this evening the police received information that Umesh Pal, who was representing a case, was attacked. Two security personnel were given to him by his government and they too were seriously injured in the attack. Sharma told that Umesh Pal had died during treatment at Swarooprani Nehru Hospital. An official police said that Umesh Pal’s security guard Sandeep Nishad also died during treatment late last night, while another security guard Raghavendra Singh is undergoing treatment.

The police commissioner said that the incident took place outside Umesh Pal’s house. They say that according to initial information, two bombs were hurled at Umesh Pal and a small weapon was fired. According to him, the relatives are giving Tahrir in Dhundganj police station, on the basis of which legal action will be taken. The police commissioner said that eight to ten teams have been set up to investigate the matter and these teams have gone to different places. On January 25, 2005, BSP MLA Raju Pal from Allahabad West seat was shot dead in broad daylight. Two others namely Devi Pal and Sandeep Yadav were also injured in the incident, while two others were seriously injured. Pal’s wife Pooja had registered an FIR at the Dhumanganj police station in Prayagraj district. The case was initially investigated by the local police and the Crime Branch, Crime Investigation Department (CBC Authority). Later on January 22, 2016, the Supreme Court handed over the case to the CBI. On August 20, 2019, the CBI, after investigating the case, issued a charge sheet against Atiq and other accused.
