Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-backed Akasa Air gets air license from DGCA

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-promoted Akasa Air is inching closer to commencing its operations later this month as the airline has got the operator’s certificate. This license comes after the airline unveiled the first look of its airline crew uniforms. The airline plans to induct some 18 aircraft by the end of the financial year FY23. Akasa Air is one of the most awaited low cost airlines to enter the aviation industry.

akasa air “We are happy to announce the receipt of our Air Operator Certificate (AOC),” it tweeted.

“This is a significant milestone that has helped us open our flights for sale and commence commercial operations,” the airline said.

In a statement today, Akasa Air said the grant of AOC is the final stage of a comprehensive and rigorous process laid down by the DGCA and marks the airline’s operational readiness to satisfactorily meet all regulatory and compliance requirements.

Akasa Air said that from the end of July, airline Will start commercial operations with two aircraft, the latter adding to its fleet every month.

By the end of fiscal year 2022-23, Akasa Air plans to induct 18 aircraft and thereafter add 12-14 aircraft every 12 months, completing its order of 72 delivered over five years .

Vinay Dubey, Founder and CEO, Akasa Air, said, “We are extremely grateful to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and DGCA for their constructive guidance, proactive support and the highest level of efficiency during the AOC process. We are now ready to open our flights for sale. We are hoping that it will start commercial operations by the end of July. This will start our journey towards becoming India’s greenest, most reliable and cheapest airline.”

The airline said that following the government’s initiative to usher in a new era of digitisation, Akasa Air is proud to be the first airline, whose end-to-end AOC process was conducted using the government’s progressive EGCA digital platform .

Akasa Air said the process concluded with the airline has successfully operated several proven flights under the supervision of the country’s aviation regulator.

An Air Operator Certificate (AOC) means that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has given its approval to an airline to operate its fleet for commercial purposes.

Last month, Akasa Air, whose airline code is QP, received its first 737 MAX at Indira Gandhi International Airport in the presence of its leadership team.
