Ranipet Police will auction the seized vehicles on Friday

Ranipet District Police will auction 124 vehicles, mostly two-wheelers, at the Parade Ground for Armed Reserve Police at the Superintendent of Police’s office at 11 am on December 3.

According to a press release, these vehicles were confiscated by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing during a raid on illegal crack making units. The auction should compulsorily follow all the COVID-19 safety norms including wearing of masks and social distancing. Before participating in the auction, interested persons should deposit an amount of ₹ 25000 in the SP office from 10 am to 5 pm.

In September this year, district police in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai auctioned a total of 681 seized vehicles, earning a revenue of Rs 1.16 crore. The seized vehicles had accumulated over the past two years in 60 police stations in these districts, as they were unable to auction them due to the pandemic.

In Vellore, Superintendent of Police, S Selvakumar has ordered auction of 528 vehicles, most of them two-wheelers (499) as scrap material. Most of these vehicles were seized during the raids by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing of the district police, while some were involved in accident cases and others were unclaimed for the past few years.

In neighboring Tiruvannamalai district, police led by Superintendent of Police S Pawan Kumar conducted auction of 153 seized vehicles earning an income of ₹46.94 lakh. Interestingly, more than 90% of the vehicles auctioned in the district were four wheelers as these vehicles were mainly used for transporting illegal firecrackers in the district.
