‘Rashtra Kavach Om’ review: Aditya Roy Kapur’s action fest is a misguided missile

Kapur Varma’s action-drama has an unnecessarily complicated script, and even Aditya Roy Kapur fails to make a mark.

Kapur Varma’s action-drama has an unnecessarily complicated script, and even Aditya Roy Kapur fails to make a mark.

After John Abraham and Vidyut Jammwal, Aditya Roy Kapur is also trying to create an elite body of work, but the action demands an inspiring script that buries its way into the imagination of the audience. Malang Gave some hope, however, luck did not favor Aditya here as the story is predictable like an alarm clock. The script of the film is needlessly complicated and it only tests our patience.

Nation Kavach: Om

the director: Kapil Verma

Throw: Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjana Sanghi, Jackie Shroff, Ashutosh Rana, Prakash Raj and Prachi Shah Pandya

Runtime: 135 minutes

Story: During a mission, a RAW agent is shot and lost his memory. When he wakes up in the hospital, he claims to be a different man.

Aditya plays the role of commando Om, who is sent on a mission to retrieve an anti-nuclear missile shield that may have fallen into the wrong hands. During the mission, Om is shot, causing partial memory loss that creates vague confusion in the story. The missile shield was developed by her father Dev (Jackie Shroff), who mysteriously goes missing. Om is raised by his uncle Rathore (Ashutosh Rana), who sacrificed his son Rishi to save Om. He reports to Murthy (Prakash Raj), who leads the mission, and is brought back into action by his aide (Sanjana Sanghi).

Director Kapil Varma’s attempt to tell a story about patriotism, faith and betrayal has higher ideas than the word Go. But the set design is tricky and the poor action choreography doesn’t do justice to Aditya’s new, ripped figure.

It is not uncommon for an antagonist and other supporting actors in an action film to be a bit melodramatic. However, in this film, these characters played by high caliber professionals like Prakash Raj, Jackie Shroff and Ashutosh Rana lack a coherent character arc and inspiration.

In his attempt to play the character, who is partially suffering from memory loss, Aditya seems to have forgotten the tropes he has acquired over the years for acting. There are obvious attempts by director Kapil to hide the plot holes by allowing the supporting actors to indulge in explosive exchanges of dialogues. However, the gap is too dazzling to miss and the film ends up as an overwhelming experience. No shield can save this misdirected missile of the film.
