Ratan Tata gets Assam’s highest civilian honor

Honored for his extraordinary contribution in advancing cancer treatment in the state: CM

The Assam government has nominated industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata for the Assam Baibhav, the state’s highest civilian award.

Announcing the names of 19 personalities shortlisted for the three categories of awards, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Mr. Tata would be honored for his exceptional contribution in advancing cancer care in the state.

“Mr. Ratan Tata has taken a lead in a cancer care project where we are building 16 hospitals under the Assam Cancer Care Foundation. The construction of 10 hospitals will be completed by this year and will be commissioned in April.

“He shares a long relationship with Assam and it was he who advised us to think of such a project. The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Tata Trusts and the Government of Assam. The people of Assam are conferring on him this award for his contribution.”

The Assam Sourav Award will be presented to Professor Kamalendu Deb Krory and Deepak Chand Jain, Director of National Health Mission, Assam, Lakshmanan S, champion boxer Lovlina Borgohain and artist Neel Pawan Barua.

Assam Pride Award Winner

Mr Sarma also announced the names of 13 Assam Gaurav Award winners. They are Director of Health Services Munindra Nath Ngeti, Professor of Pulmonary Medicine Basant Hazarika, entrepreneur Akash Jyoti Gogoi, Manoj Kumar Basumatari and Bobby Hazarika, mountaineer Khorsingh Terang, weaver Hemoprabha Chutia, assistant nurse midwife Namita Kalita, ASHA worker Bornita Momin, retired forest . Officer Dharanidhar Boro, agriculture exporter Kaushik Borua, Anganwadi worker Kalpana Boro and hematologist-oncologist Asif Iqbal.

The awards were instituted this year. In Assam Baibhav it is ₹5 lakh while it is ₹4 lakh and ₹3 lakh for the Asom Saurav and Asom Gaurav award winners.
