On 10 December, the nation bid farewell to the Chief of Defense Staff, General Bipin Rawat, as he was cremated with full military honors at the Berar Square crematorium in Delhi Cantonment. As per protocol, General Rawat was given a 17-gun salute at his funeral, where 800 service personnel were present. His daughters Kritika and Tarini performed the last rites of Rawat and his wife Madhulika. General Rawat, along with his wife and 11 armed forces personnel, were killed in an Indian Air Force helicopter crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu on 8 December.
