Governor Shaktikanta Das on Tuesday said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) aims to reduce inflation to its medium-term target of 4 per cent over the next two years and its rate action will be dependent on data. Consumer price index-based inflation – the central bank’s monetary policy anchor – stood at 6.71 per cent in July, the first time in four months that the price gauge fell below 7 per cent. “We want to bring down inflation in a time cycle of about two years… Overall, I think we are going to be close to 4 per cent in a steady way without any growth sacrificing,” Das said in an interview.
