Reading habit helps broaden one’s outlook, says Andhra Pradesh IT minister

Industries and Information Technology Minister Gudivada Amarnath called upon people to develop the habit of reading, saying it would help change a person’s mindset and bring about a change in their life for the better.

Mr. Amarnath was the chief guest at the 55th National Library Week function organized by District Grandhal Sanstha at VMRDA Bal Akhara on Monday. He along with District Collector A Mallikarjuna inaugurated a book exhibition on the occasion.

“Reading books will help a person understand the society better. Books have a great contribution in bringing change in the society. The district library has a wealth of books and the public can use them.

The Collector said that Children’s Day is being celebrated all over the country. He called upon the teachers to explain the importance of libraries to the children. He said that apart from school books, children should also read books in the library.

District Grandhalya Sanstha President Konda Ramadevi said that the function is being organized to make the public understand the contribution and role of libraries in the development of the society. He suggested that children should inculcate the habit of reading to prevent them from being glued to television and mobile phones all the time.

The program was attended by Mayor Golgani Hari Venkata Kumari, MLAs Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar and Tippala Nagireddy, DEO Chandrakala and district library staff and students.

The Visakhapatnam Public Library on Monday kicked off the National Library Week celebrations at its premises. Inaugurating the ceremony, Dr. Lankapalli Bullaiah College Secretary and Correspondent Dr. G. Madhu Kumar emphasized on the importance of library week and how a library can play an important role in the society.

He said that the youth should read all kinds of books and should not limit themselves to academic books only. VPL Secretary DS Verma, President Dr S Vijay Kumar, Joint Secretary Dr DV Surya Rao and former AU Rector Prof Prasanna Kumar were present.
