Record holder Harjinder Kaur won gold in women’s 71kg

Punjab’s Harjinder Kaur, the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, created a new record in clean and jerk (123kg) for a total of 214kg to win the senior women’s 71kg gold at the National Weightlifting Championships here on Wednesday.

Harjinder was not in her spirits in the snatch as she managed to lift her personal best (91kg) in her second attempt. In the clean and jerk, she appeared to score a relaxed clearing (115 kg) in the first attempt, 120 in the second and 123 in the third. With the last lift, he broke the record (122) set by Mizoram’s Lalchanhimi at Kolkata Nationals three years ago.

“I am not very happy. I like snatch but I don’t know why I am not giving my best in the competition.
