Red sand boa snake rescued from Darjeeling forest area, 4 arrested

Snake is also called double engine

A team of Belakoba Forest Range seized a Giant Red Sand Boa (Eryx johnny) from Darjeeling Forest area and arrested 4 persons in connection with the illegal trade. The accused have been identified as Arindam Sarkar, Pasang Lama Sherpa, Abwar Miya and Jagdish Roy.

Pictures of the rescued snake have been shared by news agency ANI.

The caption of the post read, “WB | Belakoba Forest Range team seizes Red Sand Boa (Eryx johnny) from Darjeeling forest area, arrests 4 people in connection with illegal trade. Accused identified as Arindam Sarkar, Pasang Lama Sherpas, Abawar Miya and Jagdish Choudhury Roy. It was scheduled for delivery to Nepal.

The snake is also called double engine, because its head and tail look alike. The snake is found in India, Iran and Pakistan. Its local names are Indian sand boa, John’s sand boa, red sand boa and brown sand boa.
