Relief for Shah Rukh Khan Gujarat High Court quashes criminal case against actor in Raees stampede incident

The Gujarat High Court quashed criminal proceedings against actor Shah Rukh Khan in a lower court in Vadodara related to the death of a man during a film promotional event in 2017.

The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday quashed the 2017 criminal case against Shah Rukh Khan in connection with the stampede at a railway station in Vadodara.

The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday, April 27, dismissed criminal complaints filed against actor Shah Rukh Khan over a stampede during the promotional event of the 2017 film Raees at Vadodara railway station. The case pertains to the death of a person during the promotion of Shahrukh’s film Raees at Vadodara railway station. A complaint has been made by the relatives of the deceased.

A complaint was lodged in the lower court of Vadodara on behalf of the relatives of the deceased. Justice Nikhil Kariel sought quashing of the criminal case against Shahrukh Khan and the summons issued against him by the trial court. A petition was filed in the Gujarat HC seeking dismissal of the complaints against the fan actor.

On January 23, 2017, Shah Rukh boarded a train to promote his film Raees. Huge crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of the superstar. There was chaos and the police had to lathi-charge to control the crowd. Local politician Farheed Khan Pathan suffered a heart attack during a stampede of people desperate to catch a glimpse of the actor from the heart. Some other people were also injured in this incident.

According to a PTI report, the complaint was filed by a person named Jitendra Solanki, seeking initiation of criminal proceedings against Khan in a Vadodara court after the police refused to take his complaint and register an FIR against the superstar. had turned. Solanki accused Shah Rukh of “criminal negligence and negligence” for throwing gifts at his fans, leading to a stampede and the latter leading to the death of one person.

Shah Rukh Khan’s lawyer Mihir Thakor submitted that throwing ‘smiley balls’ and T-shirts cannot be construed as rash or negligent either endangering human life or personal safety in any way.

In its order, the High Court found that the complaint against Khan was filed by a person who had no direct connection with the incident. The HC also observed that there is a need to consider whether it would be fair and just to allow trial against Khan in Vadodara and cause inconvenience to the common citizens of the city.
