Renowned playback singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away today at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. She was 92 years old. A legend of Indian cinema, Lata Mangeshkar recorded songs in over a thousand Hindi films in a career spanning over seven decades. He was admitted to the hospital in early January after testing positive for Covid-19. Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28 September 1929 to Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar and his wife Shevanti. The eldest of five siblings, he captured the nation’s imagination with his melodious voice in the 1940s and his fame only grew with time.

Lata Mangeshkar’s father was a respected theatrical music composer and Hindustani classical singer. She was introduced to music at an early age and followed in his footsteps. In 1938, he performed “classical music” and “theatre” with his father for the first time.

On 16 December 1941, when she was just 12 years old, Lata Mangeshkar sang for the first time in a studio. “On December 16, 1941, with the blessings of my respected parents, I sang two songs in the studio for the first time on radio,” she recalled on Instagram.

Ms. Mangeshkar lost her father in 1942, when she was just 13 years old. A family friend helped Lata Mangeshkar in the beginning of her career. He recorded his first Hindi song in the year 1943.

Lata Mangeshkar and SD Burman gave innumerable hit songs together.

Singer Bappi Lahiri credits her success to Lata Mangeshkar. He told the Times of India, “I was 4 years old when Lataji came home and blessed me in the Eden Gardens area of ​​Kolkata, where we lived. I still have a picture of me sitting on her lap.”

She was also a dog lover, and encouraged people to show kindness to animals.

Lata Mangeshkar met some famous personalities during her years in the industry. These included Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Bal Thackeray.

An icon of Indian cinema, Lata Mangeshkar spent her last years at Prabhu Kunj Bhavan on Pedder Road, Mumbai. After being admitted to the hospital on January 8, he was treated for both pneumonia and COVID-19. Ms Mangeshkar’s health deteriorated on Saturday, after which she was put on a ventilator, news agency ANI reported.
