Bihar liquor ban: Former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Saturday (January 28) demanded lifting of the liquor ban in the state as it was affecting foreign tourist arrivals and foreign exchange earnings.

He asked Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav to talk to CM Nitish Kumar and get the ban removed. Manjhi, while addressing a gathering during the Buddha Festival in Bodh Gaya, claimed that Bihar was losing a huge amount of foreign exchange due to prohibition.

Manjhi’s demand related to prohibition:

Manjhi said, “Despite it being an international tourist destination, foreigners do not spend more than 2-3 hours in Bodh Gaya. They come to Bodh Gaya and Gaya, visit important places and visit Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh or Hazaribagh in Jharkhand.” Let’s go back.” ,

“I request Tejashwi to talk to the Chief Minister and restart the liquor business in the state. If we want foreign tourists to stay longer and spend more here, their food and drink needs to be taken care of .. If liquor starts again, their arrival will definitely increase tenfold,” Manjhi said.

Buddha Festival is being organized after two years at Kala Chakra Maidan in Bodh Gaya and it was inaugurated by Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav.

Notably, there has been a spurt in poisoning tragedies due to prohibition in the state. The latest incident took place in Siwan on January 22, in which 15 people have lost their lives so far. One of the victims succumbed to his injuries on Friday (January 27) night.
