ReNew Power installs India’s first 3x platform wind turbine generator in Karnataka

New Delhi: ReNew Power on Tuesday said it has commissioned India’s first 3X platform Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) at Gadag, Karnataka.

“WTGs have a nameplate capacity of 3.3-3.465 MW and have a height of 128-140 metres. They offer much better efficiencies than the models installed in India till date, which typically have nameplate capacities of 2-3 MW,” the company said in a press release.

The new WTG will be part of the country’s first ’round the clock’ renewable energy project, a combination of wind, solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The project will produce enough energy to power over 1 million homes in India annually.

In a first for an Indian business, the installation has been executed by an in-house wind EPC team, including land procurement, foundation construction, crane management for the WTG installation and transmission build-out. ReNew completed on-site installation of the WTGs every five days.

“As an organization we have always been emphasizing on the implementation and widespread use of renewable energy resources in India. We want a carbon neutral India whose growth story is driven by clean energy,” said Sumant Sinha, President and CEO, ReNew Power.

Sinha said renewable energy can enable Indian companies to expand in a pollution-free manner. “This installation brings us one step closer to our goal of fueling India’s economic growth by accelerating the clean energy transition.”

The team was led by a specialized Wind Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) team. With their help, ReNew Power has installed over 400MW of WTGs at various sites in Karnataka and Gujarat.

“These installations, together with the new WTGs, will enable ReNew to complete its overall portfolio of 13.4 GW. Additionally, 1500 MW of wind power projects are under construction in parts of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat, planned for FY23 The installation of 3x platform wind turbine generators is also planned for other sites, the press release said.
