“Representation Matters”: Trans Models Star in Taylor Swift’s Music Video

Politicians across America have introduced 124 bills that restrict LGBTQ people.

Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated music video for ‘Lavender Haze’ was a treat in more ways than one: It was her first video in three months, the first video from her latest album ‘Midnights’ but most importantly, trans model and actor Laith Ashley stars alongside With Grammy Award Winner.

Taylor Swift said in an Instagram post, “The lavender hedge video is out now. There’s a lot of lavender. There’s a lot of haze. My incredible costar is Laith Ashley, who I’ve had the pleasure of working with.”

Famous for being one of the first transgender male models to appear in a national campaign in the US, Laith Ashley thanked Taylor Swift for the experience and the platform because, she said, “representation matters”.

“Thank you, Taylor Swift, for allowing me to play a small role in your story… thank you for being an ally and constantly using your platform for good. Representation matters. And love always wins.” Will be!” Laith Ashley said on Instagram.

Speaking to Elle magazine, Laith Ashley said he doesn’t want to hold any sort of position or say he represents all of the LGBT community because it wouldn’t be “fair”. However, he acknowledges that representation, especially on a platform as big as Taylor Swift’s, is important.

Laith Ashley said, “I’ve gotten thousands of messages from young trans people and trans people of all ages talking about how important and how big it is for someone with Taylor Swift’s platform, especially in the times that we’re in right now.” Told.

According to the American Civil Liberties Union, politicians across the US have introduced 124 bills that restrict LGBTQ people, targeting their freedom of expression, protections for transgender students and access to health care for gender dysphoria.

According to Time magazine, 2021 was the deadliest year for transgender and gender non-conforming people in the US, with at least 50 trans and gender non-conforming people killed that year alone.
