Request for construction of drainage channel, relay road

Demanding construction of drainage channels, desilting of drainage channels and re-filling of damaged roads, residents submitted a petition to Mayor PM Saravanan during the Grievance Day meeting on Tuesday.

A group of residents of Kumaresan Nagar, Royal Colony and Sai Baba Colony in Thyagaraj Nagar filed a petition demanding construction of a drainage channel and setting up of a park in their area.

He said the residents of these colonies located behind Pushpalata schools comprising 800 families were struggling a lot due to stagnation of water as no drainage channel was built in the area. As a result, residents, especially children attending their schools, have to cross stagnant water.

Therefore the corporation should construct drainage channels to drain the stagnant water and establish parks in the colony to prevent stagnation of water in future.

A group of residents of Ward 55 filed a petition seeking regular supply of drinking water and restoration of damaged storm water drainage. He said that the waste generated in his ward should be cleaned at least thrice a week.

Ward 28 AIADMK councilor Chandrashekhar filed a petition urging the corporation officials to remove the drainage channels in Tirunelveli Town, Bharathi Street, Vaiyapuri Nagar and Vayal Street. He said that since the drainage is flowing along the roads, the work of siltation should be done immediately.

Shanmuga Subramaniam of Kodeshwaran Nagar filed a petition seeking re-connection of Shantipillaiyar Temple – Cheranmahadevi Road and Quai-de-Millet Road near Kamaichi Amman Temple, which were causing accidents everyday.

Demanding action against 14 hospitals, which have allegedly constructed buildings without obtaining approval from the corporation, S. Ferdin submitted a petition.

Petitions were also submitted to the mayor seeking street lighting at Sardarpuram, road at Kottaiyadi Street in Thachanallur, culvert at Karumari Mandapam in Kurukkuthurai, ration shop building at RSA Nagar and underground drainage at Kamaraj Nagar.

Deputy Mayor KR Raju and Corporation Commissioner B Vishnu Chandran were present.
