Resident doctors call for nationwide strike over delay in NEET-PG counseling

New Delhi The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has called for a nationwide strike from November 27 over the delay in NEET-PG counseling 2021.

Forda issued a statement urging all resident doctors across the country to withdraw from outpatient department (OPD) services from Saturday, November 27.

FORDA in its statement said, “The already burdened and exhausted resident doctors of the country, who have been fighting on the frontline since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, have received some positive feedback from the Supreme Court proceedings in this matter.” Waiting patiently for the result. Already the NEET-PG 2021 counseling has been delayed. However, there is no relief from their physical and mental distress, the next court hearing is scheduled on January 6, 2022.”

The decision for the nationwide strike was taken after discussions with the representatives of the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA).

In his statement, he also urged the Center and the Supreme Court of India to take immediate notice.

He said, “We urge the Central Government and the Supreme Court of India to look into the complaint of the resident doctors and take necessary measures to expedite the admission process and fast-track the court along with NEET-PG 2021 counseling . Action on immediate basis.”

The doctors’ association also said that they would escalate the protest if there was no positive response from the Indian government or the apex court. “The responsibility of any such unfortunate situation affecting the health services will rest with the concerned authorities,” the statement said.

The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing of the ongoing NEET counseling case till January. The same day the Center requested four weeks’ time as it has decided to revisit the norms of 8 lakh annual income limit for EWS category.

Modi government has introduced 10% reservation quota in medical colleges for students from Economically Weaker Section (EWS). Until the Supreme Court and the government take a decision on this, the process of admission and counseling in medical colleges is closed.
