Retail inflation for agriculture, rural workers rises in August

Retail inflation for agriculture and rural workers rose to 6.94 per cent and 7.26 per cent, respectively, in August, mainly on the back of higher prices of certain food items. In July, retail inflation for agricultural and rural workers stood at 6.60 per cent and 6.82 per cent, respectively, a labor ministry statement said.

Food inflation for agricultural laborers (CPI-AL) and rural laborers (CPI-RL) stood at 6.16 per cent and 6.21 per cent respectively in August 2022, as against 5.38 per cent and 5.44 per cent and 2.13 per cent in July 2022, respectively. 2.32 per cent respectively during the corresponding month of the previous year. The All India CPI-AL and CPI-RL for August 2022 increased by 9 points to 1,140 and 1,152 points respectively. The CPI-AL stood at 1,131 points in July 2022, while the CPI-RL for the month stood at 1143 points.

The major contributors to the increase in the General Index of Agricultural Laborers and Rural Laborers came from the food group to the extent of 7.74 and 7.36 points, respectively, mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, wheat-flour, bajra, maize, pulses, milk, onion. . Green/Dry Chilli, Whole Turmeric, Mixed Spices, Vegetables and Fruits, Jaggery etc. In the case of agricultural laborers, 20 states registered an increase of 3 to 15 points. Tamil Nadu tops the index table with 1312 points while Himachal Pradesh is at the bottom with 898 points. In the case of rural laborers, an increase of 3 to 17 points was registered in 20 states. Tamil Nadu tops the index table with 1301 points while Himachal Pradesh is at the bottom with 951 points.

Among the states, the maximum increase in CPI numbers for agricultural laborers was mainly due to increase in rice prices in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh (15 points each) and for rural laborers in Jammu and Kashmir (17 points each) . , wheat-flour, dry chili, vegetables and fruits, etc.
