Revanth demands probe into all power purchase agreements

Blaming the BRS government for the “dismal financial condition” of two power distribution companies (discoms) in the state, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A Revanth Reddy has demanded that a detailed probe be ordered into all power purchase agreements. (PPA) in the state since 2014.

Addressing farmers at a dharna held in front of the power sub-station at Ponnekal in Kempalli mandal of Khammam district on Friday, Mr Reddy accused the people in BRS dispensation of bringing the discom to the brink of financial crisis. “The Lure of Money.”

“All the PPAs should be probed to unearth rampant kickbacks,” he said.

Transco and Genco were burdened with huge debt of Rs 60,000 crore, of which the state government owed Rs 20,000 to discoms, accusing the BRS regime of ruining power utilities with flawed policies.

He further alleged that the state government was imposing financial burden on the consumers in the form of Advance Consumption Deposit (ACD).

Calling upon the consumers not to pay the ACD charges, he said that the Congress party would gherao Vidyut Soudha if the decision to impose ACD burden on the consumers was not withdrawn.

Alleging that the farmers were being denied assured power supply, he warned of intense agitation on behalf of the aggrieved farmers.

Later, addressing a street corner gathering at Kothalingala on the fifth day of his padyatra, the TPCC chief said the people of Telangana have bitten the dust as the 12 MLAs who joined the BRS after being elected on Congress tickets in the 2018 assembly polls Should be given hustings.

He said, “If BJP leaders are sincere in their fight against rampant corruption in the BRS regime, they should demand a CBI inquiry into the defections by BRS.”
