Revisiting Irrfan Khan: “He Was The King And I Was His Jester,” Babil Remembers His Father

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Apr 28 (ANI): How will a son remember his father, who died an untimely death? Father was also a star, who was worshiped by the whole world for his acting talent. How will a son deal with reality when his ‘best friend’ is gone forever?

Babil Khan, the elder son of late actor Irrfan Khan, spoke his heart out on a public platform last year and shared a few anecdotes about his father. Ahead of Irrfan Khan’s third death anniversary, let’s look at the actor from Babil’s point of view. The young actor keeps sharing about his father on social media.

Irrfan passed away at the age of 53 on April 29, 2020, after being diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer. He is best remembered for films like ‘The Lunchbox’, ‘The Namesake’, ‘Piku’, ‘Inferno’, ‘Maqbool’ and many more. More.

Babil recalled in that incident that ‘Baba’ was his best friend, his life partner. But he was busy shooting most of the time. So, ten year old Babil decided one day that he would meet God and tell him how lonely he was. He told his father and Irrfan readily accepted his proposal.

Both went to Irfan’s farmhouse in Igatpuri by car. The ‘Piku’ actor asked Babil to wear his swim trunks. Then he lay down on his back on the water. “I sprinted around, trying to regain control,” Babil said.

Irfan pulled him out of the water and said ‘finish the exercise, will do it tomorrow’. For the next nine days, Babil did the same thing again and again. On the tenth day, Babil lost all interest in meeting the Lord and became bored. But on the same day he did not hesitate and tried to regain control. He let the river take him with him. “Baba saw me swimming. And at that very moment, when my head was about to hit a rock, He pulled me out. He said, ‘Today you surrendered, today you met God,’ Babil recalled.

However, he did not understand what his father was trying to teach him at the time. After the demise of his father, Babil went back to the place where he had gone in search of God. “The sun sets. The sky was purple. My feet drowned in the water. And I told Baba, I can’t find the ground under my feet. Then I heard my Baba’s words in my mind, “Today you have surrendered. You have surrendered yourself.

Babil continues to share fond memories of his father as he moves forward in his career path.

“He was the king and I was his clown. I wish he had seen that I had become his prince. I wish he could have seen what he wanted to see, but I was too late,” Babil while making his debut on the ramp wrote.

Sharing a picture from the old days, Babil wrote, ‘Questions keep me awake at night. What I never asked then, what I can never ask now. My query is left for me to extinguish myself, that’s fine, I’ll figure it out. Although I miss your laugh, I don’t think there is an answer. The frame reveals that baby Babil was captured by Irfan.

Babil also recalled that Irrfan was keen to rehearse scenes with Babil. But he used to think, “What is the hurry? Baba will be forever and ever…”

But ‘ever’ turned into ‘never’ in the blink of an eye… Babil now realizes why his ‘Baba’ was in such a hurry… (ANI)
