Richa Chadha taking Kathak lessons for her role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Hiramandi’

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]Jan 30 (ANI): Actress Richa Chadha has reunited with her old love, and it is not a person.

Richa trained formally as a child in the classical dance form of Kathak, but was forced to drop it due to board exams. Since her role in Ustad Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi now demands Kathak training, the actress started preparing for the same.

“I trained in Kathak as a child for ten years under Pt Abhay Shankar Mishra. Then life happened and my love for dance took a back seat. I was afraid I might lose my touch, like any art it takes practice. But it felt like swimming and I think I can swim without a lifejacket. I feel dance has the ability to make a person more connected, grounded, confident and of course happy. Movement is medicine. This year I hope to complete my degree in dance form under the auspices of my mentor Pt. Rajendra Chaturvedi,” shared Richa.

Coming to ‘Heeramandi’, it will explore the tales of courtesans and the hidden cultural reality of Heeramandi, a dazzling district during pre-independence India. Basically, it is a series about love, betrayal, succession and politics in closets that promises SLB’s trademark larger-than-life sets, multi-dimensional characters and soulful compositions.

‘Hiramandi’ is an important milestone in my journey as a filmmaker. It is the first of its kind series based on tawaifs of Lahore. It is an ambitious, grand and sweeping series; So I am nervous as well as excited to make it. I look forward to our partnership with Netflix and bringing Heeramandi to audiences around the world.” said, among others.

More details about the project are awaited. (ANI)
