This year Rishi Panchami, also known as Rushi Panchami, will be observed on September 8.

Rishi Panchami is a fasting day to honour the Sapta Rishis (seven sages).It involves devotees expressing respect, gratitude, and remembrance to the great sages who contributed to the welfare of society. According to the Hindu calendar, Rishi Panchami is observed on the fifth lunar day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada.

It is generally celebrated a day after Ganesh Chaturthi. This year Rishi Panchami, also known as Rushi Panchami, will be observed on September 8. Rishi Panchami is particularly popular among Nepali Hindus. In some areas, the three-day Hartalika Teej fast ends on Rishi Panchami.

Rishi Panchami is also called Bhai Panchami for members of the Maheshwari community. On this day, sisters tie rakhis to their brothers and pray for their long life.

Rishi Panchami Significance

As per drik panchang, Rishi Panchami is not a festival but a fasting day observed by women to purify themselves of Rajaswala Dosha, which occurs when the guidelines of purification are not followed.
