Rivian is one of the hottest EV startups on the planet, backed by Amazon and Ford. Its new EV – the R1T also seen in the Apple TV+ original “The Long Way Up” and used by Jeff Bezos and William Shatner for their recent “Blue Origin” flights to outer space, is now in delivery available gradually. But of course the company is starting to increase its production. Rivian has so far delivered 42 cars and built a total of 56 electric pick-up trucks, the first of its kind to hit the roads ahead of cars like the Tesla Cybertruck and the Ford F-150 Lightning. Average. Rivian is manufacturing 2 cars per day. These numbers are based on the time it began production on September 14 and disclosed these numbers in its filing to the US SEC on October 22.

“In the consumer market, we launched the R1 platform with our first generation consumer vehicle, the R1T, a two-row five-passenger pickup truck, and began customer deliveries in September 2021. As of September 30, 2021, we produced Delivered 12 R1Ts and 11 R1Ts, and as of 22 October 2021, we have produced 56 R1Ts and delivered 42 R1Ts,” it said in the filing.

This means that Rivian isn’t accelerating production, but ramping up its processes — but even by those metrics, these are low figures. Rivian has about 48,000 preorders for both the R1T and R1S — but it could also be slow as it has to deliver vans for Amazon that it has custom-made for the e-commerce and cloud computing giant.

But according to its previous disclosure, Amazon plans to ramp up production for the electric delivery van only in December. There are two models for the van, the 500 Van and the 700 Van and around the same time it will also ramp up production of the R1S SUV.
