RJD wants review of Jharkhand’s job policy

Angered by the non-inclusion of Magahi and Bhojpuri in the new employment policy of Jharkhand’s JMM-led government, its ally Rashtriya Janata Dal on Saturday demanded Chief Minister Hemant Soren to review it.

RJD state president Abhay Kumar Singh said that the party does not support the Hemant Soren government regarding the recently announced new employment policy.

Mr Singh told reporters here that the government’s move to exclude Magahi and Bhojpuri from Jharkhand for recruitment in government institutions has hurt the prevailing harmony in the state.

He cautioned that any dispute over the language issue was “no good” as it would lead to a “conflict of interest”, which is not good for the health of the coalition government.

The Soren cabinet had in August approved a new recruitment policy in which it has made knowledge of regional and tribal languages mandatory for government jobs in the state through the Jharkhand State Staff Selection Commission.

The opposition BJP had termed the move as “discriminatory”.

Mr Singh also hit out at Jharkhand Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon for his recent statement that the RJD’s base in the state is negligible. The minister is a senior Congress leader of the state. Mr Singh warned the party to be sensible as it is “necessary and appropriate to respect the coalition religion and to secure the better health of the coalition government”.

“We (RJD) had accepted to contest seven seats in the 2019 assembly elections in Jharkhand as we did not want any conflict between allies. The main objective of the RJD was to stop the communal forces.
