Road Min Planning Star Rating for Cars

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari told Parliament on Wednesday that India’s road transport ministry is working on a proposal to prepare a scheme for testing and verification of star ratings of cars under the India New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP).

It aims to encourage vehicle manufacturers to voluntarily participate in a safety test evaluation program and new car models will include higher safety levels with respect to identified parameters as structural safety, adult and child safety, and active safety. and includes the provision of passive protection. support technologies. The proposed evaluation will assign a rating from 1 to 5 stars.

The ministry, through a notification, has prescribed additional safety features for motor vehicles used to carry passengers, with not more than 8 seats manufactured on and after 1 July 2019.

Additional safety features include airbag requirement for the driver, seat belt reminder, manual over-ride, system alert system and vehicle reverse gear sensor.
