Visakhapatnam South MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar has said that the roads in Andhra Pradesh will get a facelift, with the state government giving an estimated cost of Rs 6,300 crore for the repair of roads in the state and Rs 11,000 crore for the works. Center.

Addressing the media here on Monday, Shri Ganesh Kumar said that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is keen to improve logistics through better road connectivity in the state. The chief minister had taken up with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on the need to improve national highways and provide seamless connectivity to the proposed new international airport from Visakhapatnam port to Bhogapuram, the MLA said.

He said that the Center has already sanctioned Rs 22,000 crore and it is expected that the remaining Rs 13,000 crore will also be sanctioned soon. The construction of new ports, new SEZs and fishing harbours has put tremendous pressure on the roads. He said that there has been an improvement in logistics and there has also been an increase in the transport of goods by road.

Responding to the queries, Shri Ganesh Kumar agreed that the move of collecting ‘garbage tax’ has brought some notoriety to the State Government and has also received complaints in this regard. However, he put the ball in the court of the Centre, saying that it is the policy of the central government, which has to be implemented in all smart cities. He said that the volunteers will have to deal with the issue diplomatically and create awareness among the people.

To another question, he attributed the poor condition of roads in the city to the lack of an elected body for the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) until recently.
