Rocket-propelled grenade hits Punjab Police’s Intelligence Branch headquarters in Mohali, police say ‘minor explosion’

A rocket-propelled grenade struck the Intelligence Wing headquarters of the Punjab Police in Mohali near here on Monday night, breaking window panes on one floor of the building, police said.

The window panes of one floor of the building were shattered due to the explosion.

Police said there was no damage and the area has been cordoned off. The blast was heard at 7:45 pm with no casualties reported.

In an official statement, police said, “A minor explosion was reported at Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters at SAS Nagar at around 7:45 pm, no damage has been reported. Forensic teams have been called.

“There was a minor explosion in the intelligence building. A police officer said, “Investigation is on and our senior officers are at the spot.”

“The explosion happened with a rocket type of fire. There have been no casualties,” said the official.

Top police officers are on the spot and investigation is going on.

Former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said in a tweet, “Shocked to hear about the blast at the @PunjabPoliceInd Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali. Thankfully no one got hurt. This shameless attack on our police force is very worrying and I urge Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to bring the criminals to justice at the earliest.

Former Deputy Chief Minister and Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa tweeted, “Bomb blast in Mohali is a sign of deep communalism. I strongly condemn this incident and urge @PunjabGovtIndia to investigate and take strict action against those who intend to disturb the peace of Punjab.
