The 2023 Specter limousine features a redesigned version of Rolls-Royce’s iconic ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ statue, made in the prowess of the first battery-powered model. In September, the iconic brand will unveil its first EV after worldwide testing. The intellectual property rights to Spirit of Ecstasy were registered by Rolls-Royce on February 6, 1911.
Anders Warming, Design Director, said, “The Spirit of Ecstasy has come to represent the spiritual direction for our brand. Her form perfectly captures the marque – she leans forward, expressing our relentless pursuit of progress. Her dress flows gracefully in the wind, echoing the stillness of our products in motion. For Specter and beyond, she becomes less and more focused; unprecedented speed and ready for an exciting future will define her presence.”
A Rolls-Royce spokesperson explained that the redesigned “Spirit of Ecstasy” looks better and more aerodynamic than the outgoing model. Instead of standing with legs straight, bent at the waist, and feet together, the ornament stands with one leg forward, hinged down. This is the opposite of hanging one leg forward against the wind. The new ornament is 3.2 inches tall, while the old one is 3.9 inches tall.

It took 830 hours to design and test the ornament in a wind tunnel. The jewelery was designed not by hand but using computer software, but the company promises that it will continue to be hand-crafted.

The new figure is very round, and the goal is to push the sculpture in front of the viewer. It is the fine detailing for the highest efficiency of the Rolls-Royce Specter EV that truly sets this machine apart. Rolls-Royce claims that the Specter EV has a coefficient of performance of 0.26.
The current line-up of Phantoms, Ghosts, Wraiths, Dawns and Cullinan will continue to use the previous version of Spirit of Ecstasy as Rolls-Royce but all future models will use the newer version of Spirit of Ecstasy.
