Ravichandran Ashwin, batting at No. 3 for Rajasthan Royals in a crucial IPL 2022 encounter against Delhi Capitals, said that the management had informed him that he would get an opportunity to bat higher up the order.

Batting at number three, Ashwin hit a 38-ball 50 against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday night, although the loss was due. “No license has been given. Starting with the season, I was properly informed that I would be used as a batsman. We had some practice games when I opened as well.

The veteran off-spinner said during the post-match press conference, “I have worked a lot on my batting, so it is good to see that whatever work has been done has been translated into the field.”

Talking more about the work he did before IPL, he said: “I was in good batting rhythm before the start of the season. Worked on my batting a little bit, like tried to move my body, a little bit. Switched. On my technique. Feeling great about the knock but it didn’t lead to a win.”

And Ashwin said that RR need to come back strongly in their remaining two matches to ensure their place in the play-offs.

“The back end of the tournament is always the pressure. Hopefully we can turn it around and register two wins together,” he said.

RR are currently third with 14 points from 12 games, while DC are fifth with 12 points from the same number of games.
