RSS leader Indresh Kumar says Mahatma Gandhi’s mistake led to partition

During an event in Jaipur, senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar said that India was partitioned because of Bapu’s mistake. He said that Mahatma Gandhi should have chosen Sardar Patel and Subhas Chandra Bose as “associate-de-camp” instead of Jinnah and Nehru and that the partition of India could have been avoided. Congress leaders like Gaurav Gogoi and Digvijay Singh have courted controversy by questioning the RSS stand on Mr Kumar’s statement.

Mr Kumar was speaking during an event organized by the Jansankiya Samadhan Foundation in Jaipur on Saturday, where the senior RSS pracharak expressed regret over a decision taken by Mahatma Gandhi.

India got independence 75 years ago but in the form of partition. If Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) had not chosen Jinnah (Muhammad Ali Jinnah) and Nehru (Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru) as allies to negotiate with the British, India would not have been partitioned. If Sardar Patel, Subhas Chandra Bose or Maharishi Aurobindo had been aide-de-camp in their place, India would not have been partitioned. Bapu’s small mistake divided India into two pieces,” Mr Kumar said.

Reacting to Mr. Kumar’s statement, Gaurav Gogoi, MP and Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha (Congress), took to Twitter and wrote that he was not surprised to see Mr. Kumar’s remarks.

“Nathuram Godse believed the same thing before the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. It is this ideology that pulled the trigger on our Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi,” he wrote.

Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh took to social media to criticize Mr Kumar and said he was the same leader whose name was registered in the Ajmer bomb blast FIR.

“Mohan Bhagwat ji, Indresh Kumar ji is member of RSS or related to you? On his statement on Gandhiji, would you like to say anything?, Mr. Singh said.
