SAP India, Amul to provide digital literacy, community development to 1.5 million people in Gujarat

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul) Managing Director RS Sodhi said rural India will generate 12 million new jobs in dairy related activities in the next 10 years and these jobs will mean livelihood and food security for a large population in the country. . ,

Addressing a gathering at the Amul facility in Anand on Tuesday, he said that the dairy sector has the potential to generate large number of new jobs, entrepreneurial opportunities and sustainable income for the families and hence ensure food security.

Mr. Sodhi said that the dairy sector of the country will perform well for the next 50 years, especially when many neighboring countries are facing shortage of milk.

SAP and Amul announced a joint community outreach focused on knowledge transfer and technology capacity building that will transform the lives of 1.5 million children, adolescents, youth, women and farmers in Gujarat. The initiative was designed with a focus on bridging the gap between social entrepreneurship, enabling skilled workforce, digital inclusion and gender equality for the community.

Under this programme, more than one lakh children, adolescents and women will get digital literacy and skills through computer labs set up in 60 schools. About 250 teachers will be trained while over 20,000 women will be given financial literacy and entrepreneurship training.

Emphasizing on the importance of digital literacy, Kulmeet Bawa, President, MD, SAP Indian Subcontinent, Rural India had a digital literacy rate of 25% while in urban India it was 61%.

“Technology can act as a catalyst in shaping India’s journey towards an inclusive and sustainable economy. While urban development projects like smart cities and future mobility reflect this potential, India’s true progress lies in the development of its villages,” he said.

“We all need to work together as individuals and enterprises and contribute to education, empowerment, digital literacy for students and women,” she said.

Over the past two decades, SAP and Amul have been working together to optimize business processes and drive digital transformation for the dairy cooperative using SAP’s digital core ERP and supply chain solutions. To promote literacy and inclusion at the grassroots, SAP and Amul have now extended their collaboration to create a digitally inclusive ecosystem that will provide technical education and professional support in the areas of coding, English skills and socio-economic opportunities .

SAP India said that this collaboration will create a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) based learning environment, which will help students in marginalized areas to transition easily into the workforce and enhance job opportunities.
