Rural Police launches ‘DAD’ to curb drug abuse

The Coimbatore District (Rural) Police has launched a special drive named ‘DAD’ (Drugs Against Drugs) with an aim to curb the sale of narcotics in the district.

Superintendent of Police S. On the initiative of Selvanagarathinam, 10 people have been arrested for possessing ganja in a special operation in the last two days. The police have recovered a total of 8.660 kg ganja from them.

A senior police officer said that a list of people involved in drug trafficking was prepared as part of launching the DAD. A total of 150 persons were identified, of whom 50 were sellers of ganja and the remaining 50 were its users.

Police teams constituted at each of the stations of Coimbatore Rural will keep a watch on the activities of these persons. More people will be added to the list in the coming days based on inputs from peddlers and users questioned by the police. The official said that the police would also initiate detention proceedings under the provisions of the Goondas Act against those criminals who were eligible for it.

On Wednesday, police arrested Zubin Varghese from Thondamuthur, Akshaydas from Annoor, Pichaimani from Thudiyalur, Poovarsan from Thottipalayam, Ajith from Mettupalayam, Tamilselvan and Pavithan from Pollachi and seized 5.260 kg of ganja from them.

The police on Thursday arrested Mujeeb Rahman of Mettupalayam, Das alias Maria Susai of Valparai and Kathiresan of Sultanpet and seized 3.40 kg of ganja from them.

Police said that information about drug trafficking can be given to the Rural Police Control Room on 94981-81212 and WhatsApp number 77081-00100.
