Russell Crowe joins Sony’s ‘Craven the Hunter’

Director Jesse Chandor will direct the film, which deals with the Marvel characters from Sony’s universe.

Russell Crowe will appear alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Sony Pictures’ “Craven the Hunter,” based on one of Spider-Man’s oldest foes.

“Triple Frontier” director Jesse Chandor will direct the film, which deals with Sony’s universe of Marvel characters.

According to Hollywood Reporter, The details of Crowe’s character have been kept secret.

Richard Wenk, Art Markham and Matt Holloway have written the screenplay.

In Marvel Comics, Kraven is a vicious big game hunter named Sergei Kravinoff, and also part of the original members of Spider-Man’s infamous rogue gallery, the Sinister Six.

He considers himself the world’s largest hunter, a nickname he first earns through his skill in tracking down and killing big game, often with his bare hands.

But eventually, her desire to hold on to her title led her to consume a serum that gives her super-strength and stamina, and slows down her aging significantly.

Since his debut in comics in 1964, the character has appeared in several animated series and video game adaptations of Spider-Man.

Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad are producing the film, which will be the third anti-hero film in the Spider-Man universe after “Venom” and the upcoming “Morbius.”

The studio is also developing a Madame Web movie in which Dakota Johnson is joined to star.

‘Craven the Hunter’ is set for release on January 13, 2023.

Crowe, who won an Academy Award for “Gladiator” and starred in several other critical hits like “A Beautiful Mind”, “The Insider” and “Master and Commander”, is no stranger to superhero movies.

He previously played Superman’s father Jor-El in Zack Snyder’s 2013 film “Man of Steel”. The actor is also set to star in Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Love and Thunder”, in which he has a cameo appearance as Zeus.
