The Russian Ministry of Health has registered the nasal version of its vaccine against the coronavirus – Sputnik v. It is the world’s first nasal vaccine against COVID-19.

Russian news agency TASS reported in January that the nasal vaccine against the novel coronavirus infection would be in civilian circulation and available to Russians within 3-4 months, quoting the director of the Gamalia Center, Alexander Gintsberg. The Gamalaya Center, a research institute, is the creator of Sputnik V.

In October 2021, the Russian Ministry of Health authorized phase II clinical trials of a coronavirus vaccine in the form of a nasal spray.

“Laboratory tests show that Sputnik V in its normal injectable form protects against Omicron, and it would certainly be as efficient as Nasal,” Gintsberg told TASS.

The Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine was administered for the first time in India in May 2021 in Hyderabad. The first consignment of imported doses of Sputnik V vaccine landed in India on May 1 and received regulatory approval from the Central Drugs Laboratory on May 13, 2021.
