SA T20 Auction: IPL owners loosen purse strings as young Tristan Stubbs receives Rand 9 million from Sunrisers EC. Cricket News – Times of India

Cape Town: South Africa’s batting sensation Tristan Stubbs started a bidding frenzy with Sunrise Eastern Cape receiving its services for a staggering 9.2 million rand (over USD 500,000) at the inaugural auction of SA T20 League Here on Monday.
Six teams in the league are owned by IPL franchises- Mi Cape Town (Reliance), Pretoria Capitals (JSW), paarl royals (Royals Sports Group), Durban Super Giants (RPG-Sanjeev Goenka), johannesburg super kings (India Cements), Sunrisers Eastern Cape (Kaviya Maran, owner of Sunrisers Hyderabad).
With a salary cap of Rs 34 million (approximately USD 1.9 million, Rs 15 crore) per team, the IPL saw strong bidding with stubs playing for Mumbai Indians the most sought after.
Four franchises were involved in bidding with MI Cape Town, after which Paarl Royals made the first move. However, in the end it was Johannesburg Super Kings and Sunrisers Eastern Cape who fought tooth and nail before placing a winning bid of Rs 9.2 million.
“I’m still trembling,” was Stubbs’ first reaction.
The other big buy for Sunrisers was their own IPL players – left-arm pacer Marco Jansson was bought for 6.1 million (USD 344,000).
One of the other notable gainers was left-hander Riley Rossouw, who laughed his way to the bank with a bid of 6.9 million (USD 390,000 approx) from Pretoria Capitals.
Among the known players, Lungi Ngidi received a bid of 3.4 million (USD 191,000), while Tabrez Shamsi received a bid of 4.3 million (USD 242,000) from the same franchise.
Hard-hitting Heinrich Klaasen was picked by Durban Super Giants for 45 lakhs (USD 252,000), while Keshav Maharaj was picked up by 25 lakhs (USD 141,000). Sanjeev Goenka‘Steam.
Johannesburg Super Kings picked England batsman David Malan for 2.7 million (USD 152,000) and hard-hitting youngster Harry Brooke for 2.1 million (USD 118,000).
Big names that didn’t sell include World Cup-winning England captain Eoin Morgan, South Africa’s ODI captain Temba Bavuma and Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup winning opening pair, Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nisanka.
