‘Sabpati’ movie review: Santhanam’s latest has a thrilling plot, but is disappointed by the monotonous writing

What Sivakarthikeyan did in Doctor is Santhanam’s effort in Sabpati… only, the writing should have been stronger

R Srinivasa Rao Vice President reminded me doomsday mr denton, an episode of Rod Serling’s cult classic TV series, the Twilight Zone, In the latter, Fate, personified in the form of a strange salesman, saves the life of a former gunman from a deadly duel with old wine and a deadly peril, by giving him a gun and a small bottle of magical potion. Luck, which is usually blamed by humans for their misfortune, helps a fallen person.

In Vice President, also, fate is expressed. The fate in this film is a VFX creation – a man with a long beard and a baritone who sits in a dimly lit room and does strange things like reversing the collapse of a card castle. he, like a salesman the Twilight Zone The episode intervenes in the life of a stammer Sabpati (Santhanam), struggling to make it better.

however, the opposite the Twilight Zone episode, which readily evokes philosophical thought (as most the Twilight Zone episodes do) Vice President, due to its ineffective script, gives you the feeling of bathing in lukewarm water on a wet, cold morning. if only the water was hot, because the plot Vice President, though not entirely novel, is solid: a gullible good man, struggling in life, receives a suitcase full of cash belonging to a corrupt politician. This is the point where fate decides to intervene in his life. But building up to this point and the aftermath is tedious.

Blame the writing. The construction till the intermission, where Sabpati found the suitcase, is tedious. Some of the scenes between Santhanam and MS Bhaskar work to an extent because of their performances. And, Cook with Komali-Fame Pugaz, who plays a friend of Santhanam’s ‘quarters’-loving Santhanam in his big screen debut, delivers some one-liners. But barring a few such moments, no line lasts.

The tone of the film fluctuates wildly in the second half. For the time being, it turns out to be a madhouse, with multiple people chasing the same object, resulting in comical accidents. But after a few moments, it all becomes inspiring.

But it was refreshing to see Santhanam not coming on screen every two minutes with a one-liner or retort. what did sivakarthikeyan do doctorSanthanam does Vice President, Santhanam, a strange, small-town boy stammer, doesn’t, for the most part, remind you of Santhanam. It was also refreshing to see that the film didn’t shy away from the plot, apart from an unnecessary fight sequence and songs. All of this results in a subpath that isn’t long… but if the writing was strong, it could have been much more than observable.
