Sai Praneeth in the quarterfinals; George, Ashmita bow down

India’s B Sai Praneeth entered the tournament after defeating Korean qualifier Hyok Jin Jeon in a hard-fought three-game match. Thailand Open quarterfinals The Super 300 Badminton tournament will be held here on Thursday.

Praneeth defeated his Korean opponent 24-22, 7-21, 22-20 in the men’s singles second round match.

He will now face sixth seed Li Shi Feng of China in the last-eight round.

Earlier in the day, Kiran George and Ashmita Chaliha fought valiantly before going down in three games in the second round of their respective events.

Odisha Open champion George lost to third seed Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong 22-20, 15-21, 20-22 in men’s singles, while Ashmita lost 21-19, 13-21, 27-29 for the sixth spot. Dane Højmark Jaarsfeldt of Denmark was seeded in the hard-fought Round of 16 in the women’s singles.

Eighth seeds Tanisha Crasto and Ishaan Bhatnagar went down 19-21 16-21 to Indonesian pair of Akbar Bintang Kahyono and Marsheela Gischa Islami in the mixed doubles.

N Sikki Reddy and Rohan Kapoor also failed to cross the second round, losing 11-21 10-21 to sixth seeds Feng Yan Jie and Huang Dong Ping of China.
