Saint-Gobain, IIITDM to provide scholarships to girls to pursue technical courses

Now, female students from low income background can pursue technical courses like B.Tech with scholarship. The scholarship will encourage aspiring girl students from disadvantaged backgrounds to take admission and pursue B.Tech in Computer Science, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering.

It is part of a collaboration between the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM) Kancheepuram and Saint-Gobain India. Through Scholarship, Saint-Gobain India Committed to donate Rs 2.29 crore and support the education of 40 girl students over a period of eight years.

“In line with the gender diversity agenda of Saint-Gobain India, this MoU is an initiative under its industry-academic partnership to attract and retain more girl students from institutions of national importance in the manufacturing sector,” the institute said in an official statement. Is.”

Speaking about the initiative, P Padmakumar, Executive Director – Human Resources and Head – CSR Saint-Gobain India, said, “As a part of the scholarship and for the benefit of the students, there is also an element to do internships. in any Saint-Gobain business in India.”

Highlighting the impact of this initiative, Prof DVLN Somayajulu, Director, IIITDM Kancheepuram said, “The Government of India is taking all necessary steps to increase the enrollment of girl students at all levels especially in higher education. According to the All India Survey on High education (AISHE), the overall enrollment of girl students in higher education has been increasing steadily over the years. One of the options suggested by the Government of India is to provide more scholarship programs to supplement the cost of education and the implementation of this scheme is expected to increase the enrollment of more girl students in IIITDM Kancheepuram. The institute is planning to approach other nearby industries for grant of similar scholarship scheme for girl students.
