Samajwadi Party marches against UP government, security tightens in Lucknow

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh) [India]Sep 19 (ANI): A large number of security personnel were deployed in the state assembly as the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday took out a protest march against the UP government over various demands.

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and several party MLAs and leaders today led a march from the party office to the assembly, highlighting issues in the state ahead of the state legislature’s monsoon session.

“We have come here to protest on various issues of public interest. This is our constitutional right, but BJP is not allowing MLAs to enter the assembly.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya hit back at the protests led by Akhilesh Yadav, saying the march was not related to the benefit of common people.

“The SP’s opposition has nothing to do with the benefit of the common people. If they want to discuss it, they are free to do it in the Assembly. Our government is ready for discussion. Such protests will only create problems for the people,” Maurya said.

Maurya also took a jibe at the SP and said that the party is now unemployed and they have nothing to do.

In view of the march, elaborate security arrangements were made in Lucknow.

“He had not taken permission. Nevertheless, they were assigned a designated route that would not cause traffic congestion. He refused to take it. We have no option but to stop them here. If they take the specified route, there will be no problem,” said Joint Commissioner of Police, Law and Order Piyush Mordia. (ANI)
