Samantha on sharing screen with ‘Sister’ Nayanthara: My role in Kathu Vakula Rendu Kaadhal is equal to her

Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been winning hearts ever since she first entered the world of entertainment. The stunning actress is now on the cover of Elle India magazine. Samantha discussed everything from her “girl-next-door” persona to her recent “Char Dham Yatra” in an interview with the magazine. The actress also shared what brotherhood means to her, and opened up on sharing screen space with Nayanthara, whom she calls her sister.

Speaking with Elle India, Samantha channeled their sense of brotherhood, explaining that for her the bond means “choosing each other, making us stronger together.” And she has proved it in her selections, such as accepting a brief part in the Keerthy Suresh-starrer 2018 biopic Mahanati knowing the central character she was not there.

The Family Man 2 actress commented, “I find it very entertaining to watch two-heroine films when women never meet each other on set.” According to Samantha, people have a preconceived notion about a film with two heroines. To put something in perspective, the two heroines in the same film always intended to be rivals, “pulling each other’s hair.”

Notably, Samantha will next be seen in Kathu Vakula Rendu Kaadhal. The film is directed by Vignesh Shivan and also stars Nayanthara, whom he once called sister. Despite the fact that she is not the main character, Samantha opted to take on the project for “art”. According to the actress, “Vignesh and Nayanthara kept their promise to me: My role is on par with Nayanthara, and I’m in every scene with her. It felt so liberating,” Samantha said.

Apart from her film, Samantha also talked about how she is seen as the bubbly, charming girl next door. The Theri actress said, “I have always struggled to be typecast as a bubbly, sweet, non-threatening person.” According to the magazine, the actress is trying to address her concerns by breaking out of the girl-next-door stereotype. She also wants to go beyond victim-conqueror roles in heroine-centric films.
