A report in The Economic Times states that Samsung, the South Korean electronics giant is planning to exit the feature phone market in India.

Samsung is one of the two major multinationals contributing to the government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. According to ET, Samsung is mandated to avail discount only on production of handsets valued above Rs 15,000. ET quoted a source as saying, “Samsung has spoken to channel partners and said that they will exit the feature phone business in the next few months or by the end of this year. Samsung did not respond to a request seeking comment on the matter.
The trend of feature phones has decreased in India. According to a Counterpoint Research report, the market witnessed a year-on-year decline of 39 per cent in the first quarter of 2022. Samsung, which was the market leader till a few years ago, is now trailing itel and Lava in the feature phone market. Counterpoint Research report said.
