Thiruvananthapuram:

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday said the communal agenda of the Sangh Parivar failed to gain traction in Kerala due to the strong presence of the Left movement in the state.

Inaugurating a study center in the memory of communist revolutionary P Krishna Pillai, Mr. Vijayan said that the RSS was trying to pollute the public discourse by spreading its communal propaganda and creating doubts in the minds of the people.

Mr Vijayan also attacked the RSS recently with a procession in Thalassery with communal slogans and a controversy over halal certification of food.

He said, “They tried various communal agendas to weaken the Left Front, but failed. Now they are focusing on polluting the public discourse. As part of this, they are creating confusion in the society. and are spreading communal propaganda. They are bringing their communal angle in. Every possible sphere of public life,” Mr. Vijayan said.

He said the recent controversy over halal food and halal certification for the prasad served at Sabarimala was part of the Sangh Parivar’s agenda to spread “hatred” in the society.

“You all must have noticed the recent controversy over Halal food. Is this something new for our society? It is said that even in Parliament, there is Halal certified food. The Prasad bearing Halal marking at Sabarimala was supplied by Was a Shiv Sena leader,” he said

Halal certification is part of business strategy in various countries. And it is not done by any person of any particular religion. The Sangh Parivar is spreading hatred.”

Mr Vijayan said the communal agenda of the Sangh Parivar was dominant in many other states and they were using the Congress party.

“In Kerala, the Sangh Parivar failed to gain traction because of the strong presence of the Left movement in the state,” the chief minister said.

“We know the unfortunate situation of many states. Those states do not have Left party and in such states, BJP is growing at a fast pace by using Congress to increase its base. While Congress claims to be secular, but To remain in power can be seen walking the line with communal politics,” he said.

Mr Vijayan said the Congress leaders have decided not to oppose communalism and as a result their leaders are giving the same arguments that the BJP leadership had put forward.

The Left leader also said that the communist movement in Kerala was successful in Kerala as the farmers and other working class fought shoulder to shoulder for their rights without any religion.

“We have seen class struggle. This is how our society developed. Recently, a survey result came out that Kerala has the highest minimum wage in the rural sector. That too was a result of leftist struggle. The Sangh Parivar is all such progress. Trying to give up,” Mr. Vijayan said.

Attacking the BJP, the Left leader said that “our children are studying together” without any hatred or prejudice and the divisive propaganda of the RSS needs to be understood.

“Creating hatred among each other and creating doubt in the minds of people is the agenda of the Sangh Parivar and such a study center will explain to the coming generation about such hate propaganda,” he said.

He referred to a recent RSS procession in Thalassery in which slogans threatening to stop prayers in mosques were raised.

Vijayan said, “What is their agenda by raising such slogans? They are well aware that their agenda will not work in Kerala. But they want to spread such propaganda in the minds of the people.”

He said that the clothes people wear, the food, the culture of different societies, all are being attacked by the Sangh Parivar and the society needs to recognize such dangers.
