Saturnalia ’02: Celebrating Watercolors of Every Color

An exhibition of water colors ‘Shatarnalia’ 02 is going to start at Chitrakala Parishad, Bengaluru on 2nd December.

Saturnalia was an ancient Roman celebration of Saturn held in December and marked the beginning of the festive season. For art lovers in Bengaluru, Saturnalia ’02 marks the celebration of watercolors as a medium and a group exhibition of watercolor paintings scheduled to be on display at the Chitrakala Parishad (CKP) Art Gallery from December 2. Curated by Kochi-based artist Sunil Linus Dey, the exhibition will be inaugurated by artist NKP Muthukoya.

According to Sunil, the first edition of Saturnalia was held at CKP in December 2019, with the expectation of holding one every year. However, no exhibition was held last year due to the pandemic. “We featured 15 artists in the inaugural edition; this year over 60 paintings by 35 artists will be on display. During the lockdown, a lot of people have adopted watercolor and the results have been good, especially because it is a difficult medium to master This exhibition showcases their hard work.”

Works in the form of landscapes, abstracts, portraits and other subjects by artists from Europe, Australia, America and Qatar are part of this exhibition on watercolor.

Sunil will also exhibit watercolor painting in the campus on December 4 at 4 pm. Saturnalia ’02 will be on display at the Chitrakala Parishad Art Gallery from December 2 to 6.
