Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was among 17 people who Padma Bhushan The award this year, which is India’s third highest civilian award after Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan. The Indian-American business executive received the Padma Bhushan along with his partner Sundar Pichai for the Business and Industry category.
Satya Nadella, who hails from Hyderabad, became the chairman and chief executive officer of technology giant Microsoft in 2014. This comes after a long stint with the company lasting around 25 years. During these years, he prospered in the company to gradually rise to his heights, securing a top-notch position for himself.

– Learn to be patient. Satya Nadella joined Microsoft as a young engineer in 1992, when he was only 25 years old. From there, he quickly climbed up and in 1999, Nadella became the vice president of Microsoft bCentral. There, he was in charge of leading web services for small businesses. He stayed at the company for more than two decades, securing his position and eventually becoming the tech major’s CEO.

Hailing from a country worshiping the game, Nadella lived at a time when his hometown Hyderabad was producing cricketing icons like ML Jaisimha, Mohammad Azharuddin and VVS Laxman. – Never give up. Born on 19 August 1967, Satya Nadella went to Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet. He did not succeed in his first attempt to enter IIT, but he later studied at Manipal Institute of Technology, from where he obtained his bachelor’s degree. From there, Nadella earned an MS degree in computer science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and even an MBA from the Chicago Booth School of Business.
– Know who you work for. Nadella’s 22 years of experience gave him an edge over others, as no one knew Microsoft’s consumers and products better than him. It gives a good example of the benefits of working in a single company rather than looking for your dream role early in your career.
– Invest wisely. As a CEO, Satya Nadella saw his company fail in various areas. After taking over in 2016, he saw the company failing in the mobile sector, and quickly decided not to invest in Front. Instead, he redirected the business and shifted his focus to other areas such as cloud computing and augmented reality. In 2016, he was instrumental in buying LinkedIn, which proved to be a huge success. Under the Padma Bhushan awardee, Microsoft became one of the most valuable companies in the world.
