Saudi Arabia said on Wednesday that it has detected its first case of the new coronavirus variant, Omicron.

The kingdom’s state-run Saudi Press Agency said the case came from a citizen it described as a “North African country”.

The report states that the infected person and his close people have been quarantined.

This case is the first known example of an omicron being found among Gulf Arab countries.

Much is unknown about the new variant, which has been identified in more than 20 countries, including whether it is more contagious, whether it makes people more seriously ill, and whether it fails the vaccine. Can do.

America’s top infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci said more will be known about the Omicron strain in two to four weeks as scientists try and test laboratory samples of the virus.
