Scooter thief caught by female cop after a movie-style chase in Delhi

A woman sub-inspector chased a man in the congested lanes of Bhajanpura, New Delhi and within an hour traced the live location of the mobile phone of the victim, knocked him down within an hour of stealing the scooter, which was stolen. In a straight scene from a Bollywood thriller, Sub-Inspector Preeti Saini traced Haider Raja through his live location, wearing civets along with his team and eventually caught him, he said.

Police said that at one point, the onlookers felt that the team was unnecessarily targeting Raja as he was not wearing khaki. The incident happened on 30th May.

Ramesh Kargati, an employee of a handicraft shop, left his mobile phone inside the boot of his scooter on Monday, parked his two-wheeler at Sur Yamuna Ghat and went to wash his face as part of a ritual, police said. he said.

However, when he came back, his scooter was missing, the police said.

When Kargati reported the matter to Timarpur police station, the task of tracking the two-wheeler was entrusted to Ms. Saini, who immediately acted and formed a team, police said.

Mr. Kargati told the police that his mobile which was in the boot of the scooter was on silent mode but was active.

Officials said that as soon as 25-year-old Saini swung into action and started chasing the accused, the computer cell of the North District Police kept him updated with the live location of Mr. Kargati’s mobile phone from time to time.

“We immediately tried to trace the location of the accused using the live location of the mobile phone. The live location was traced to Bhajanpura. Within 10-15 minutes of receiving the complaint, we started getting the live location of the scooter. We were the victims. also took us with us.

Ms. Saini told PTI, “Since the theft was going on, we were getting different locations from time to time. In the end, we zeroed in on one spot after the scooter stopped.”

Ms. Saini said that seeing the scooter standing, she decided to wait for the accused to return and surround it.

Ms. Saini said, “As he came near the scooter with a carry bag in his hand and tried to start the vehicle, we knocked him down. We also recovered the victim’s mobile phone.”

Police said the stolen scooter was handed over to the victim along with his phone.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he used to steal scooters and motorcycles parked on the roadside using the master key and then used to take the stolen vehicles elsewhere. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said that he would then remove his battery so that the vehicle could not be further stolen.

He said the accused was earlier involved in 22 other similar cases and has been listed as having ‘bad character’ at Sabzi Mandi police station.
