Over 400 swimmers, including children and sexagenarians, participated in the annual river-crossing competition in Krishna, organized by the Aqua Devils Welfare Association, on Sunday.

Competitions were held in five categories classified into five age groups for men and women.

The race, which was flagged off at Durga Ghat, ended 1.3 km away at the Lotus Food Court on the other side of the river.

Swimmers from Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka also participated in the race.

Vijayawada Mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi, NTR District Police Commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata and former MP Gokaraju Gangaraju distributed prizes to the winners in various categories.

Head Constable M. Tulsi Chaitanya stood first in the 31-45 age group. Mr. Rana said that many women and elders also participated in the events.
