‘Scream’ movie review: The 2022 edition is a fun exercise in horror

While it isn’t overly creepy or bloody, the film runs smoothly on its meta wheels.

Woodsboro and Ghostface are back in action. Like the movie that started it all, 1996’s the ScreamWith a single girl at home, and a slasher-film-obsessed killer on the phone, the film moves smoothly on its meta wheels.

Jackson repeating Ghostface’s voice, as he did in the other four movies) questioning her about horror movies. he rejects her choice Babadook And instead asks him about a slasher franchise. Tara remembers being killed (a first for the franchise) and later discusses the attack with her friends who try to trace the killer according to slasher film rules.

Tara’s estranged sister, Sam (Melissa Barrera), and her boyfriend, Richie (Jack Quaid) visit Tara and try to find out what’s going on. Suspects are eliminated as the bodies pile up to climax in the same house where the original murders took place 25 years ago.

While not really scary or bloody, the Scream Horror has a fun exercise; Yes, it sounds like an oxymoron, but there is such a thing as a comfort watch in slasher movies. While horror in the form of social commentary is all too good and lofty, sometimes you just want to see people chopped up and chopped off as they stupidly run into creepy dungeons screaming. The film is dedicated to Wes Craven, who directed the first four films. A Nightmare on Elm Street Legend, who passed away in 2015, will be very pleased with the effort.
