SEBI Chairman says every single policy brought by him is data backed

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]Sep 14 (ANI): Madhabi Puri Buch, chairperson of capital markets regulator SEBI, said that whatever policy she brings out is fully backed by pertinent data.

“We will rely on data and lead. Every single policy brought out by Sebi today is backed by data,” Butch said while speaking at the 19th annual capital markets conference ‘CAPAM 2022’ organized by industry body FICCI on Tuesday.

The SEBI chief in his address highlighted its role in facilitating capital formation and said that nation building is done by corporates and businesses.

Butch also said that the regulatory body is fully appreciating the opportunities in India, and it is through technology that the country can achieve its goal.

Further, speaking about the need for greater transparency, Butch said: “At SEBI, we follow a disclosure-based regime. This is our fundamental regulatory approach. We believe that we are the capital formation of the economy. We will fail in our basic objective unless trust in the system is protected. One of the most important aspects of trust-building is transparency. This is the key mantra for SEBI.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to the process of consultation with the industry, emphasizing on the need to maintain the momentum of SEBI regulations.

“We need to manifest the spirit of partnership between SEBI and the industry. Every action of SEBI depends on the data and will be done after the recommendations of the advisory committee.

At the conference, the Chairman, SEBI launched FICCI’s ‘RegTech’ initiative in partnership with TeamLease RegTech to facilitate end-to-end automation of all SEBI compliances. It will digitize compliance for companies to stay on the right side of the law.

This initiative is a state-of-the-art technology solution designed to transform compliance across organizations. It allows tracking of over 2,000 SEBI compliances and auto-generation of select SEBI disclosures. Additionally, the platform has other features such as end-to-end board meeting management, compliance document management, and generation of compliance calendars. (ANI)
