Section 144 extended till 6 August in this district of Karnataka

The Karnataka government on Sunday extended Section 144 and other restrictions in Mangaluru for two more days.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra KV said, “Section 144 in Dakshina Kannada police jurisdiction has already been extended till 6th August. Additional restrictions i.e. shops at 6 pm have also been closed across the district for the next two days. “

He also said that for the next two days liquor prohibition will continue in the entire district.

Earlier the restrictions were to remain in force till August 1.

The order comes amid tension in the district after three brutal killings in the last 10 days.

Fazil, 23, was killed by an unidentified group on the outskirts of Mangaluru, police said on Thursday.

After the incident, Section 144 was imposed in Surathkal, Mulki, Bajpe and Panambur.

“Around 8 pm (on 28 July), an incident took place where a 23-year-old boy was brutally attacked by 4-5 men near Krishnapura Katipalla Road, Surathkal. The boy was immediately rushed to the hospital and was declared brought dead. Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said.

The officials had also directed the closure of all liquor shops falling under the limits of the Commissionerate on July 29.

On the night of 26 July, a young BJP worker Praveen Netaru was attacked with deadly weapons by unidentified persons in Bellare, Dakshina Kannada.

Following the murder, the Karnataka Police on Thursday said they have arrested two people who will be produced before the court.

Talking to ANI, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police (SP) said that a total of 15 people have been questioned so far, out of which two have been arrested.

Earlier on July 21, a 19-year-old youth, Mohammad Masood, died in hospital after being assaulted by eight men in Sulia, Dakshina Kannada.
